of Canada Bill C-6, "An Act to support and promote electronic commerce
by protecting personal information that is collected,
used or disclosed in certain circumstances, by providing for the use of
electronic means to communicate
or record information or transactions and by amending the Canada Evidence
Act, the Statutory Instruments Act and the
Statute Revision Act," that received Royal Assent April 13, 2000. Part
1 of the Act deals with Privacy, which follows the EU Data Protection
Directive and the 1994 Province of Quebec Privacy Law. Part 2 of
the Act deals with generic "electronic signatures," and Part 3 of the Act
deals with evidentiary presumptions afforded "secure electronic signatures,"
the equivalent of "digital signatures" under U.S. laws, and "enhanced electronic
signatures" under the EU electronic signatures framework.
